So it finally happened to me.
I have low Vitamin D. Contrary to what Cousin Eddie says in Christmas Vacation, the shitter was not full; I was pretty much running on empty. Here’s what happened:
I’d been having trouble with my right hand/arm for well over a year, and when I hurt my left thumb, I couldn’t take it and went to my family doctor. I asked for basic lab work (Vitamin D, Vitamin B12; my thyroid was normal in September, and she threw in some arthritis markers). I also had an X-ray of my cervical spine, but that’s a different story. Here are my actual lab results; I told you, the shitter is empty!

So what now?? My family had just been through this with my step-daughter (her level was SEVEN!), so I had some clue how to correct it. But I’ll tell you what: I wasn’t going to sneak liver into meatballs as I did for her. And I knew if we ate a well-balanced diet, my micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) should theoretically be good! Alas, a long Winter, sunscreen in the Summer, desk jobs, living in Pennsylvania (geographical location plays a role), landed me with a weekly heavy duty dose prescription.
Here’s a great variety of whole foods that provide micronutrients, however be aware some produce may not have been grown appropriately and won’t actually contain Vitamin D. Hint, check a bag of spinach next time you’re at the store!
And if you get nothing else out of this blog, check out some common signs of Vitamin D deficiency, that I gaurantee you did not know about! Here’s a link to the full article. PS, this is just another reason to eat well! You all know I do, and I take my Juice Plus daily (sometimes twice) and I still had a low Vitamin D!
